Dear Sir or Madame,
My name is xxx. I’m writing to request an extension of my B1/B2 status, which will expire on Feb. xxx, until June xxx.
In the past few years, I’ve frequently travelled between China and the U.S., because my son xxx is an international student studying at the xxxx School, located at xxx. My son is currently a high school senior and has been working on his college applications.
I most recently arrived in the U.S. on xxxx and had originally planned to fly back to China on Feb. xxx.
However, earlier this month, a deadly coronavirus unexpectedly broke out in central China and has since spread across the country and beyond. As of this writing, according to news reports, it has killed 80 people, infecting 2,740, and the situation is rapidly evolving, forcing the Chinese government to quarantine 18 major cities, locking down 56 million people. My hometown city xxx announced partial lockdown yesterday.
As a result, I have been advised by my doctor in China that, for my own safety, I should not travel back to China at this moment. Also, since we do not know when the virus will be under control, I’m very worried that if I fly back to China right now, I may not be able to get out again any time soon and I may not be able to attend my son’s high school graduation ceremony, which will take place on June xxx, 2020.
I’m a businesswoman. I own two xxx companies, as well as multiple real estate properties in China, the proofs of which were presented when I was interviewed at the U.S. Consulate General in xxx a few years ago. I have enough assets to cover all the expenses for the extended stay.
If my extension is approved, I plan to visit more colleges with my son in the next few weeks. I will help him decide which college he wants to attend, which offer he wants to accept, and I will also be assured that I can attend his high school graduation ceremony on June xxx, 2020.
I will attach below documents for your reference.
- A photocopy of my passport (information page).
- A photocopy of my visa (information page).
- A copy of my I-94 record.
- A copy of my son’s I-20.
- A copy of my son’s high school enrollment contract 2019-2020.
- Bank statement from my account at China Citic Bank.
